Queen Margaret
(Maid of Norway)

c.1283 - 1290

Grand-daughter of King Alexander III and the last of the Canmore dynasty. She was born in Norway, daughter of King Eric II and Alexander's daughter, also Margaret. On Malcolm's death, the Maid of Norway became Queen of Scotland at the age of just three. She had been promised as the bride of the future King Edward II of England (1284 - 1327). However, she died in Orkney while en route to Scotland for the first time, aged only seven years, throwing the Scottish succession into turmoil.
