David Murdoch


1978 -

Curling champion. Born into a curling family in Dumfries, he was the son of notable curlers Matt Murdoch and Marion Murdoch. Raised on a farm in Lockerbie, Murdoch won the World Junior Champions in 1995 (Perth) and 1996, with a silver medal in 1998. Having moved to the senior game, Murdoch went on to become six-time Scottish Men's Champion. His team won gold medals in the European Championships of 2003, 2007 and 2008, together with the World Championships of 2006 and 2009. His team also took silver medals in the World Championships of 2006 and 2008, and bronze medals in 2010 and 2013. Having competed unsuccessfully in the Winter Olympics of 2006 and 2010, Murdoch led the British team which took a silver medal in Sochi (2014). This team included Scott Andrews (b.1989), Tom Brewster (b.1974), Greg Drummond (b.1989) and Michael Goodfellow (b.1988).

Also an enthusiastic cyclist, he now lives and trains in Stirling. Murdoch became British Curling's national coach in 2018. He was awarded an MBE for services to curling in 2022.
