Anne of Denmark

1574 - 1619

Wife of King James VI (1566 - 1625), and daughter of Frederick II of the combined kingdom of Denmark and Norway. She converted to Roman Catholicism shortly after marrying James, which resulted in embarrassment with the Reformation still fresh in the memories of the populous, especially when she refused communion at her husband's coronation as King James I of England. This, together with her attitude and extravagance, resulted in their separation.
