James Francis Edward Keith

1696 - 1758

Field Marshal of Prussia. Born at Inverugie, near Peterhead (Aberdeenshire), the younger brother of George Keith (c.1693 - 1778). Educated in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Keith was a Jacobite (indeed he shared his given names with the Old Pretender). He joined the rising of 1715, together with the abortive invasion from Spain (1719). He served in Spain (from 1721), Russia (from 1730) where he was much honoured and then Prussia for Frederick the Great, who made him Field-Marshal. He served successfully during the Seven Years War, but was killed at Hochkirk.
