Stephen Hendry

1969 -

Snooker player. Hendry was born in Edinburgh and was brought up in Fife, attending Inverkeithing High School. He turned professional in 1985, at the age of only 16. He was the youngest world champion (1990) and went on to dominate the game through that decade, winning the world championship five years in succession (1992-96). He also holds the record for the most titles won in a season (nine in 1991-92) and has amassed a total of 72 major titles world-wide. He has won the World Championships a record seven times.

Hendry was awarded an MBE (1999) and an honorary degree from the University of Stirling (2000). He now lives in Auchterarder.
