Denis Law


1940 -

Footballer. Denis Law was born in Aberdeen and was playing for Aberdeen Schools by the age of 15. He moved to the English team Huddersfield Town to make his debut at 16. In 1960, he transferred to Manchester City for a record fee of £50,000 and the following year to Italy to join Torino for £115,000. He finished his career playing for Manchester United. He is one of the few players to have played for both Manchester sides.

In retirement he has become a successful radio and television commentator. Law became one of the first members of the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. He has a statue at Old Trafford in Manchester, and unveiled another statue of himself in Aberdeen Sports Village in 2012.
