Sir Samuel Greig1735 - 1788
Born in Inverkeithing (Fife), Greig served in the British Navy. He was one of a number of officers to join the Russian Navy in 1764. He rose through the ranks to become a full Admiral by 1782, and was responsible for transforming the Russian Navy during the reign of Catherine the Great.
