Yvonne Murray

1964 -

Athlete. Born in Edinburgh. Murray won a bronze medal for the 3000m in the 1986 Commonwealth Games (held in Edinburgh) and a silver medal for the same distance in the European Championships in the same year. She went on to win a bronze medal, again for the 3000m, in the 1988 Olympics and a silver medal in the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Her ultimate success came with a gold medal in the 1990 European Championships and then, for the 10000m, another gold in the 1994 Commonwealth Games. She was awarded an MBE in 1990.
