Mary of Lorraine
(Mary of Guise)

1515 - 1560

Royal consort. Daughter of Claude, First Duke of Lorraine. Mary of Lorraine married James V of Scotland at St Andrews in 1538. On the death of her husband, in 1542, she was left with one child, Mary Queen of Scots. Between 1554 and her death she acted as Regent, a period marked by Protestant rebellion against the Catholic-French influence in the Scottish Court. She died in Edinburgh Castle but is buried at Rheims in France.
