William (Bill) Paterson

1945 -

TV, stage and screen actor. Born in Glasgow. Paterson began his career as a quantity surveyor, only later attending the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He came to note with the 7:84 Scotland Theatre Company in the early 1970s. Thereafter he found success on the London stage. His films include Comfort and Joy (1984), directed by Bill Forsyth (b.1946), The Killing Fields (1984), Defence of the Realm (1985), Truly Madly Deeply (1991). Television successes include The Crow Road (1996), an adaption of the Iain Banks' novel and Wives and Daughters (1999).
