Saint Adamnan
(St. Adamnan)

c.625 - 704

An Irish monk. Born in Donegal, Adamnan joined the Columban brotherhood of Iona where he was appointed Abbot in 679 AD. He was the biographer of Saint Columba. The Cain Adamnain, or Canon of Adamnan, was adopted in 697 AD, which forbade the killing of women and children in times of war.
