Alexander Stewart


(Earl of Buchan, Wolf of Badenoch)

1343 - 1405

Noble. Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, was the fourth son of King Robert II (1316-90). His constant attacks on the Bishopric of Moray from his base in Badenoch earned him the title of the 'Wolf of Badenoch'. He destroyed the towns of Forres and Elgin in 1390. He is buried in Dunkeld Cathedral.
