Donald of Mar
(8th Earl of Mar)
? - 1332
Regent of Scotland. Mar acted as Regent for the young King David II (1324-71), son of Robert the Bruce (1274 - 1329). Mar was killed at the Battle of Dupplin Moor, following the invasion of Edward Balliol (c.1283 - 1364). In 1374, his daughter, Margaret, Countess of Mar, married Sir William Douglas (c.1327-84), who gave rise to the powerful 'Black' and 'Red' Douglas families.
