Peter Caddy

1917 - 1994

Co-founder of the Findhorn Foundation. Caddy was educated at Harrow and worked for Lyons before entering the Royal Air Force in 1940 as a Catering Officer, serving in Burma and Iraq. On leaving the air-force he left his second wife and took up with Eileen (1917 - 2006) and worked initially as a brush salesman in Glasgow. The couple were able to take on a hotel near Forres but found themselves unemployed following a transfer to the Trossachs. Without resources the couple took their caravan to Findhorn, and with their three sons and friend Dorothy Maclean in Findhorn set about creating the community-based Findhorn Foundation in 1962.

Caddy left the community in 1979 and divorced his wife, and moved to Mount Shasta, California, where he founded another centre based on the Findhorn model.

He was killed in a car accident in Germany, having been married five times.
