A peninsula, district and old parish, Northmavine (also Northmaven) lies in the far northwest of the Shetland Mainland, separated by the narrow neck of land known as Mavis Grind. The majority of the small population of the area is concentrated in the settlements of Hillswick-Urafirth, Ollaberry and North Roe. Fishing and crofting underpin the economy, which is also supported by the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal, to the southeast.
Ronas Hill, which is Shetland's highest point, rises to 450m (1476 feet) in the remote northwest of Northmavine.
