Captain Scott and Dr Wilson Memorial Cairn

Located on the east side of Glen Prosen as it opens into Strathmore, the Captain Scott and Dr Wilson Cairn overlooks the Prosen Water from the slopes of Mile Hill, a mile (1.5 km) west of Dykehead. The cairn was erected in memory of Antarctic Explorers, Captain Robert Falcon Scott (1868 - 1912) and Dr E.A. Wilson (1872 - 1912), who had planned their ill-fated 1910-12 expedition to the South Pole in nearby Burnside Cottage, Wilson's home.

The cairn was constructed in 1981 to replace a memorial fountain which had stood here since 1919, but was accidentally demolished in 1979.
