Ice Factor, The

Said to be the biggest indoor ice climbing facility in the world, the Ice Factor is located in part of the old aluminium smelter at Kinlochleven in the West Highlands. Opened at the end of December 2003, at a cost of £2.3 million, the Ice Factor was designed as the National Centre for Indoor Ice Climbing and as a regional mountaineering centre. The centre includes an 18m (60 foot)-high refrigerated ice climbing wall, alongside more traditional facilities such as a rock climbing wall and bouldering area, a sauna and steam room. It offers a variety of courses in outdoor pursuits as well as providing a conference venue.
