An estate with a fine mansionhouse in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Birkhall is situated on the River Muick to the southwest of Ballater. The property was acquired from the Aberdalgie family by Prince Albert, consort to Queen Victoria, it became the Deeside home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (1900 - 2004) and later HRH Prince Charles. A fine wire suspension bridge erected in 1880 crosses the River Muick here.
