Back Water

A short stretch of river in W Angus, the Back Water issues from the Backwater Reservoir, 6 miles (10 km) north of Alyth, and flows south for a mile (1.5 km) before it becomes the Melgam Water at Dykend. Prior to its flooding to create the Backwater Reservoir, this river extended 2½ miles (4 km) further up the valley, with its headwaters including the Hole Burn, the Glendamff Burn and the Glentaitney Burn.
