Braes of Doune Wind Farm

The Braes of Doune Wind Farm is located on moorland on the southeastern slopes of Beinn Odhar in N Stirling, just within the border with Perth & Kinross, 5½ miles (9 km) north of Doune and a similar distance east northeast of Callander. This was a controversial location because the development can be easily seen across wide area of Central Scotland. The farm comprises 36 Vestas V80 turbines, each generating 2 MW of power, giving a total output for the site of 72 MW. Commissioned in August 2007, it was built by contractor Alfred McAlpine and is operated and partially-owned by Airtricity. The output is exclusively sold to Centrica, the parent company of Scottish Gas, who took 50% ownership of the farm between 2007 and 2013, when they sold their interest to an investment trust for £59 million.
