Cafe Gandolfi

Located on Albion Street in central Glasgow, Cafe Gandolfi opened in 1979 in part of the former Corporation Cheese Market and has become one of the iconic restaurants in the Merchant City. Named in honour of the Italian-Scottish family, who manufactured cameras in London from 1885, the cafe features photographic prints of Glasgow's historic restaurants. The restaurant is particularly noted for its unique furniture designed by wood-artist Tim Stead (1952 - 2000) and the dramatic blue stained glass above the window, A Flock of Fishes by John Clark (b.1957), which won a Saltire Award for Art in Architecture in 1988. A more-recent extension is the Bar Gandolfi, located up a steel staircase in the attic space, contrasting with the traditional styling of the original restaurant.
