Kinnell Stone Circle

(Kinnell Standing Stones)

A small but well-preserved circle of six standing stones, each up to 2m (6½ feet) in height, the Kinnell Stone Circle lies in a field just to the southwest of Kinnell House, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) east of Killin (Stirling). Thought to date from the 2nd or 3rd millennium BC, the site was first described in the 18th century and a detailed archaeological survey undertaken in 1910. The circle is flattened, measuring 9.5m (31 feet) by 8.5m (28 feet) and the northernmost stone shows three cup-marks. It may be that the circle has been 'improved' as a garden folly.
