Located on the northwest margin of Prestwick Airport, a half-mile (1 km) west northwest of the village of Monkton, the Prestwick International Aerospace Park was opened by the Minister for Enterprise and Lifelong Learning, Henry McLeish, in 1999 to accommodate aerospace service industries associated with the airport. The 100 ha (247 acre) low density, landscaped development has attracted major employers, such as the American Goodrich Corporation, who opened an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility here in 2004.
There is an impressive bronze sculpture at the entrance: Monkton Icarus by the Glasgow-based sculptor Andy Scott (b.1964).
