Auchtergaven Parish Church, a B-listed structure built 1812-13, is sited magnificently on an eminence overlooking the southeast part of the village of Bankhead. It was tragically burnt out by fire in February 2004, leaving only the haunting sight of its roofless walls and empty tower looming over the settlement below. The entire contents of the church were lost in the fire, started by accident, including a pipe organ, installed in 1906. The face of the clock remains on the tower.
The present structure is the third church to have existed on the same site since the 10th Century. It comprises a simple Gothic box with a tower, featuring a crenellated parapet.
