Mulberry Memorial, Garlieston

An embayment on the west side of Wigtown Bay, Dumfries and Galloway, Garlieston Bay lies to the southwest of Eggerness Point, 4 miles (6.5 km) northeast of Whithorn. The name derives from the settlement of Garlieston, founded on the southwestern shore of the bay by Lord Garlies in the 1780s. During World War II the Mulberry Harbours were tested here prior to their critical deployment on the Normandy coast following the D-Day landings.
