Tynecastle Stadium

After a short spell at Powderhall, the Heart of Midlothian Football Club moved west in 1881 to take over the ground at Tynecastle Park, just off Gorgie Road in western Edinburgh. Five years later the club moved for the final time, making the short trip across Gorgie Road to settle at the present site in April 1886 with a stadium seating capacity of 18,008.

The Club was founded in 1874, taking its name from the Heart of Midlothian dance hall on the Royal Mile, which in turn took its name from the novel by Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832). Hearts was in the vanguard of recruitment during the First World War, when the entire team enlisted into a Sportsmen's Battalion encouraging many of their supporters to follow suit. Several players lost their lives.

Hearts have been league champions 4 times, the most recent of which was in 1960, and runners up no less than 13 times. They have been Scottish Cup winners 6 times, most recently in 1998. There is a city rivalry with Hibernian Football Club who play at Easter Road Park.
