Herma Ness

The wild northernmost headland of the Shetland island of Unst, Herma Ness is a designated nature reserve, designated in 1955, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. (SSSI) and a National Scenic Area. Herma Ness reaches 200m (656 feet) at the summit of Hermaness Hill, which lies at the centre of the peninsula. Offshore to the north is Muckle Flugga, with its lighthouse. A duckboard path, elevated above the peat bog, guides visitors north to spectacular cliffs where breeding seabirds, including puffins, are common in the summer months.
