Newtonhill Community Woodland

Located in Caithness, 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of Wick, Newtonhill Community Woodland was developed from a former quarry later used as a refuse disposal site in the late 1970s. It was designated a community woodland in 1996. The woodland includes a walking route of approximately a half-mile (1 km), together with a bridle path. A picnic area includes a dyke built of traditional Caithness flagstone and a view-point is elevated. Mature conifers round the periphery of the woodland provide shelter for the broadleaf species which form the core. Bird species include goldfinch, chaffinch and gold crest.
