Scotstoun Sports Campus

(Scotstoun Stadium)

A large sports complex on Danes Drive in the West End of Glasgow, Scotstoun Sports Campus comprises a range of indoor and outdoor facilities, including the Scotstoun Stadium which is home of the Glasgow Warriors professional rugby team.

The land was first developed by the Glasgow Agricultural Society as a permanent home for their agricultural shows, the first being held here in 1900. By 1907 the site was also being used for sporting events and by 1915 a running track had been laid out with a grandstand. The showground closed in 1993 and it was redeveloped to form a specialist sports training and competition venue. The present facility was the result of a £17.6 million renovation which began in 2008 and the resulting leisure complex was opened on the 14th January 2010 by the Princess Royal. The Campus contains Scotland's first indoor tennis centre, all-weather athletics and field event facilities and a rugby centre of excellence as well as community leisure facilities. The stadium gained new grandstands and now has a seating capacity of 9708.

The facilities include a 25m swimming pool, associated leisure pools, gym, health suite, a 400m running track, 100m Indoor running track, three multi-purpose sports halls, eight indoor and three outdoor tennis courts, ten badminton courts, a full-size floodlit synthetic pitch, four five-a-side and four seven-a-side synthetic pitches, together with a café and function rooms. The Glasgow Warriors have access to grass and all-weather training pitches, gym and physiotherapy facilities, changing rooms, a player lounge and a meeting/video analysis room.

Scotstoun Sports Campus is owned and managed by Glasgow City Council. The Campus is also home to the National Badminton Academy, which opened in 2003 at a cost of £3.5 million and the Scotstoun Squash Centre, which opened in 2013 and includes six courts. The facilities at Scotstoun provided one of the venues for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and for the 2018 European Championships.
