A mansion and sporting estate in Glen Prosen (Angus), Balnaboth House lies at the end of Glen Logie 9 miles (14.5 km) northwest of Kirriemuir. It originally comprised four separate houses, with parts dating from the 16th century, but these were joined together in the 18th century and the whole was modernised and enlarged in 1825. Author and play-wright J.M. Barrie (1860 - 1937) holidayed here during the 1920s and early 1930s, welcoming the likes of Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald (1866 - 1937) and Prince George (later King George VI) with his wife (Elizabeth; 1900 - 2002) and young family (Elizabeth and Margaret) to join him. A ruined chapel lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the east. The 2225-ha (5500-acre) sporting estate lies on the southern margin of the Cairngorms National Park and has passed through the Ogilvy family since 1470.
