Hare Myre

A small, shallow lochan and Site of Special Scientific Interest in Perth & Kinross, Hare Myre lies 2 miles (3 km) south of Blairgowrie. Containing a large island, the loch is a kettle-hole formed by the melting of isolated blocks of ice left by a retreating glacier which once descended from the Grampian Mountains through Glen Shee and Strathardle. It is surrounded by pine woodland in which red squirrels and roe deer are common.

Hare Myre SSSI has been protected since 1985 and includes the neighbouring Stormont Loch together with Monk Myre, which is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the east northeast. This is also a Geological Conservation Review Site.
