Langholm Castle

All that remains of Langholm Castle is part of the south gable wall on Castle Holm, a strategically important site at the confluence of the River Esk and the Ewes Water, opposite the town of Langholm. Probably built by the Armstrong family c.1526, the tower betrayed to the English in 1544 and recaptured in 1547 by Mary of Lorraine's Scottish army.

The rectangular tower once measured measuring 12.8m (42 feet) by 9.2m (30 feet), while the principal remnant is a 9.2m (30 feet) long and 6m (20 feet) in height and contains a rectangular first-floor window. Langholm Race Course lies adjacent.
