Princess Alice's Cairn

One of a collection of fine commemorative cairns within the wooded policies of Balmoral Castle on Royal Deeside, Princess Alice's Cairn is located on the southwestern slopes of Creag a' Ghobhainn, a mile (1.4 km) south southwest of the Castle. This tall haystack-shaped cairn was built to celebrate the marriage of Princess Alice, Queen Victoria's second daughter, to Prince Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt on the 1st July 1862.
