John Muir Country Park at Belhaven Bay

Established in 1976 to commemorate the conservationist and founder of the US National Park movement, John Muir (1838 - 1914), the John Muir Country Park extends over 733 ha (1811 acres) of the East Lothian coastline around Belhaven Bay to the west of Dunbar where Muir was born. The park includes a range of habitats including cliffs, dunes, woodlands, saltmarshes, scrub and permanent grassland, all of which support a rich variety of wildlife including twelve species of butterfly. Dunbar Castle lies within the country park.
