One of the smallest of a group of reservoirs, known as the Glen Clachaig Feeder Reservoir System, which were built to supply water to the Crinan Canal. Lochan Duin is located within the Knapdale Forest of Argyll and Bute and is retained by an earth embankment dam at its northern end. The reservoirs were named in 1814 by the engineer Hugh Baird (1770 - 1827) and are now managed by Scottish Canals.
