The River Ness & Inverness Castle

The River Ness forms at the outflow of Loch Dochfour at the northeastern end of Loch Ness in Highland Council Area and flows northeast through Inverness to empty into the Moray Firth at South Kessock, having completed a course of only 6 miles (10 km). The Caledonian Canal runs alongside the river for the first 3 miles (5 km). The Ness Islands are a group of small picturesque wooded islets in the river in Inverness. Road, rail and distinctive suspension foot-bridges cross the Ness within the boundaries of the city.
