A valley in the Scottish Borders, Teviotdale carries the waters of the River Teviot northeastwards from Teviothead to Ancrum Bridge, a half-mile (1 km) to the west of Ancrum. Until 1917, The Duchy of Teviotdale was held by the Crown Prince of Hanover, a descendant of King George III and cousin of the British Royal family. The title was removed because the Prince sided with Germany during the First World War. Teviotdale cheese was awarded Protected Geographical Indication status by the European Union in 1998.
