Irvine Bay is the name given to the large bay located west of Irvine, extending from North Ayrshire into South Ayrshire. The settlement of Saltcoats is located at its northern end while to the south lies Troon. Noted for 8-mile / 13-km long sandy beach, with an extensive system of dunes and raised beach behind, the bay faces out into the Firth of Clyde towards Arran. The only significant river entering the bay is the Irvine, with its narrow channel extending behind into the substantial combined estuary with the River Garnock. The Gailes and Darley Burns also fall into the bay at its southern end.
The Irvine Bay Regeneration Company was set up in 2006 to bring about the urban regeneration of the 'five towns' of Ardrossan, Irvine, Kilwinning, Saltcoats and Stevenston. It was wound up in 2017.
