Ben Vorlich

A mountain located at the head of Loch Lomond in Argyll and Bute, Ben Vorlich is the most northerly of the Arrochar Alps. Rising to a height of 943m (3094 feet), Ben Vorlich has a crescent shape with a central spur running east from the summit. Its eastern flank, above the Loch, has two corries; Coire na Baintighearna and Coire Creagach. Its name derives from the Gaelic for "hill of the bay". A 2-mile (3-km) tunnel carries water beneath the southern section of the mountain as part of the Sloy-Awe Hydro-Electric Power Scheme, emerging as four immense steel pipes above Inveruglas.
