Dundas Castle

Situated a mile (1.5 km) to the south of the town of South Queensferry, Dundas Castle comprises a 19th-century mansion built beside a 15th Century tower. The original L-plan castle was built around 1425 and features a corbelled parapet, slit windows and, inside, barrel-vaulted rooms. In 1818 a castellated Tudor-Gothic mansion was built next to the tower by William Burn (1789 - 1870). The interior is primarily Jacobean, the result of a refurbishment c.1900. In the grounds is an unusual grand Renaissance fountain, with sundial (1623) and an 18th-century round doo'cot.
