Balloch Castle

Located within the grounds of Balloch Castle Country Park, near Balloch in West Dunbartonshire, Balloch Castle dates from 1808 when it was built for the Vale of Leven textile magnate John Stirling. The former mansion house, originally called Tullichewan Castle, was used for a time as a visitor centre for the Country Park but is now rather forlorn. An earlier castle near this site was built by the Earls of Lennox in 1238, and the surrounding moat is still visible.
