Dura Den

An attractive wooded gorge between Dairsie and Pitscottie in NE Fife, Dura Den occupies part of the valley of the Ceres Burn which flows northwards to join the River Eden east of Cupar. Extensive fossil fish deposits were first discovered here c.1859 by the Newburgh minister and geologist John Anderson (1796 - 1864). For many years the burn powered jute spinning mills.
