Chanonry Point

A headland on the east coast of the Black Isle in Easter Ross, the Chanonry Point extends into the Cromarty Firth opposite Fort George. Chanonry, the former name of the town of Fortrose which lies at its head, refers to the Canonry of Ross which was the residence of a bishop. In 1660, the Brahan Seer was put to death here by Lady Seaforth, who did not like his predictions. The event is now commemorated by a monument. A lighthouse here dates from 1846.
