The Monadhliath Mountains are a range of mountains that mark the border between the Inverness and Badenoch and Strathspey districts of Highland Council Area. Running in a northeast to southwest direction, the mountains lie on the western side of Strathspey and reach a summit of 945m (3100 feet) at Carn Dearg, 16 miles (24 km) south of Inverness. The Great Glen and Loch Ness lie to the west. The area is remote and inaccessible, with no roads reaching the core of the mountains, which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation.
