Barrie's Birthplace, Kirriemuir

A two-storey building at 9 Brechin Road, Kirriemuir, was the birthplace in 1860 of the playwright J.M. Barrie creator of Peter Pan. Gifted to the National Trust for Scotland in 1937, it is furnished as it might have been when Barrie lived there. The adjacent house features a display on Barrie's literary and theatrical works and a wash house outside is said to have been his first theatre. In 1930 J.M. Barrie was given the freedom of Kirriemuir. He later presented the town with the cricket pavilion and camera obscura on Kirrie Hill.
