A former stronghold of the Balfours of Burleigh, Keepers of Falkland Palace, Burleigh Castle lies on the eastern outskirts of Milnathort in Perth and Kinross. Two towers remain, one being topped by an unusual square cap house bearing the date 1582. The Balfours were forced to abandon the castle when the estate was forfeited to the Crown as a result of their participation in the 1715 Jacobite Rising. The building is now in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.
