An uninhabited island lying a mile (1.5 km) off the northeast coast of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, Fuday (Gael: Fuideigh) has an area of 232 ha (573 acres) and rises steeply to 89m (292 feet). Separated from Barra by the Sound of Fuday, Eriskay lies 3 miles (5 km) to the east. The island was inhabited until the early 20th century and is today owned by the Scottish Ministers (the government).
