Trotternish

(Trotternish Peninsula)

A large lobate peninsula forming the northernmost part of the island of Skye in the Inner Hebrides, Trotternish extends northwards from Portree to Rubha Hunish. Loch Snizort separates Trotternish from the Vaternish (Waternish) Peninsula to the west and to the east, the Sound of Raasay separates Trotternish from the island of Raasay. Its geology is dominated by the Trotternish Escarpment which comprises a line of steep basalt cliffs rising to 719m (2363 feet) at The Storr. The Storr and Quiraing landslides are amongst the most spectacular in Britain.
