Dalswinton Wind Farm

A medium-sized wind farm situated on Dalswinton Common in E Dumfries and Galloway, Dalswinton Wind Farm is located 2½ miles (4 km) northeast of Auldgirth and 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Thornhill. Auchencairn Forest encloses the site to the west, north and east. Planning permission was granted in 2006 and the site has been operational since June 2008. It comprises 15 REpower turbines each producing 2 MW of power, giving a total installed capacity of 30 MW. Along with Minsca Wind Farm, Dalswinton was officially opened by Energy Minister Jim Mather MSP on 28th October 2008, who commented that these developments took Scotland to more than three gigawatts of installed capacity. Developed by Airtricity, who were taken over by Scottish and Southern Energy just as the farm was being completed, both Dalswinton and Minsca Wind Farms were bought by the Northampton-based Infinis energy group in April 2011.
