Applecross Heritage Centre

A small exhibition centre situated next to Clachan Church, overlooking Applecross Bay in Wester Ross, the Applecross Heritage Centre is run by the Applecross Historical Society. Opened in 2003, a mile (1.5 km) north of the village of Applecross, the centre represents a pleasing renovation of a derelict building, with modern architecture rising from traditional stone walls. Displays take visitors on a journey through time, from the earliest settlers to the present day, including the importance of fishing and crofting as local industries. A section is devoted to the religious history of the area, beginning with the missionary St. Maelrubha who preached here in the 7th C. The centre also houses historical and genealogical records, and photographs relating to the local area. Information is also available relating to Channel 4's Time Team investigation of a nearby broch in 2005. There is also a small shop.

Adjacent was the site of St. Maelrubha's monastery, founded in 673.
